Plein Air at The Bridge

The Bridgehampton Museum kicked off the summer plein air season with a painting class at the gorgeous Bridge Golf Course. This is the Museum's second summer of sponsoring plein air workshops with Howard Rose. Last year I attended the last workshop at the South Fork Natural History Museum. It was so great that I vowed to take advantage of all that they have on offer for this summer!

The Bridge Golf course property was previously operated as a as a race track. The Bridgehampton Race circuit was built by Grumman engineers in 1957 and operated as a racetrack until 1970. The golf club continues to honor their racing roots with race car related decor and special collaborations.
The Bridgehampton Museum along with the Bridgehampton Racing Heritage Group have previously collaborated with the The Bridge. This was the first plein air painting collaboration. I hope that there will be another!
The club is beautifully situated on the hills above Peconic Bay offering 360 degree vistas.
Upon our arrival at 9:45 our host offered us a morning coffee!
Coffee with Lainey and Diane White
It was 52 degrees and windy, but were able to shelter on our generous host's patio.
I painted a view with the edge of the clubhouse on the left side of my painting.
My Soltek easel help up well in the wind. I used a limited pallet of white, alizarin, cobalt blue and cadmium yellow medium. I didn't hang my turpentine pot off the side because I was afraid the wind would blow splatters onto the patio. I painted on a 9" x 12" primed canvas board. It was a pleasure to spend three hours on this beautiful property trying to capture the view in paint. So grateful!
