Happy Valentine's Day!
My painting, "With Love" is in the gallery at the Southampton Cultural Center during the Boots on the Ground Theater performance of "Love Letters" until February 18th. The theater company kindly asked the Southampton Artists Association if we'd like to decorate the entry gallery with love themed art. Of course we did. Stop in for all the feels.

I recently finished this sweet painting of a robin amidst snow covered holly. We have an English holly outside our studio window and robins have been busy feeding on the berries as the ground has been mostly frozen. The robins used to migrate south til spring, but for the past few years they have been staying here. This particular painting is of a European robin.
The SAA Winter Exhibition is coming up at the Southampton Cultural Center! I will be offering my two wood duck paintings in silver frames.  Hugh will have two painting up also. The exhibition opens February 20th with a reception on Saturday the 22nd from 4-6pm The show runs until March 2nd.
I recently dropped off my "Windswept by the Sea" abstract to its new home at Windswept by the Sea salon. Elizabeth Cassone, the owner and stylist is a huge surfing fan. She does wonderful work if you are looking for a salon in the Hamptons. Also, if you find yourself looking for adventures here and around the world,  Elizabeth's son James is the man to contact. His company is called Salty Sessions.
I mostly prefer to be painting than reading about painting, but Hugh recommended this book to me and I would also highly recommend it! Martin Gayford's, "How Painting Happens (and why it matters)" includes interviews with multiple artists who offer insights on their thoughts and processes. Many illustrations and examples as well. A very good read! One to save and review again and again
I took another great workshop with Howard Rose at the Bridgehampton Museum on color mixing. Do you know that this was the first time that I made yellow ochre, burnt sienna, and burnt umber purposefully on my own? I have accidentally made those colors and other piles of mud, but this was the first time I was guided logically through the process. Of course I could have read a book.... but I'd rather learn by doing! Howard's comments about how to mix color for a more harmonious painting really hit home. Now I need to apply what I've learned... again and again. The museum is getting ready for spring, but still had a display from the H. Hoie exhibition up. I loved seeing this imagining of her desk. So many great reasons to visit the Bridgehampton Museum!

A view of an ice sculpture and the Sag Harbor windmill during the recent Harborfrost celebrations.

Stay cozy everyone!
